Well, if you are thinking about doing it, just be sure that you are committed and that you have someone that can do it with you. This diet is not for wimps, but the results are awesome!
Here are some things to consider before you start.
- 500 Calories a day: Not as hard as you would think. I just miss variety.
- You have to drink a lot of water: This has inconvenient consequences... I'll leave it at that.
- VERY low carbs: This one has been VERY hard for me. No sugar? No pasta? No Rice? No beans? No bread? Say what?
- VERY low fat: No butter, no bacon, no vinaigrettes, no frying. Everything is baked, grilled, or boiled.
- Becoming a hermit: I can't go out on this diet. No restaurants. No movie theaters. Going to someone else's house for dinner? Forget it. Too hard. Stay home where you can control the food.
- You have to follow ALL of the phases: Yes, phase three is important! Who wants to gain all of that weight back because you didn't do phase three right? That would just make a hard, yet very effective diet, worthless.
- Strange food dreams: About three days in I had a weird food dream where I was at my Mom's house eating rolls filled with gravy and chocolate frosting... I think I was having carb withdrawals....
Here are some helpful hints for this diet:
- Weigh yourself everyday!: It's so fun to lose anywhere from .5-1.5 lbs a day
- Keep track of your weight loss: I have a line graph that visually shows my losses (and gains when I cheat). This is great for motivation.
- Chocolate rice cakes: These are great for sugar cravings. I schedule one in everyday into my 500 calories. So worth it.
- Get out of the kitchen: Get out of the house between meals. Go on a walk with the kids. Ride your bike. Stay busy. Clean your house. Go shopping. Quilt a blanket. Knit. It doesn't really matter as long as food is not available. Bryan and I walk around the lake every night with the kids after dinner.
- Individually wrapped Tilapia fillets 4 oz. each: So good and easy to cook. Cut the top off, add some seasoning, fold the wrapper under, nuke for about 2 1/2 minutes in the microwave. Yummy!
- Food scale & CalorieKing.com: Helps to ensure that you are staying as close to 500 calories as possible. You don't want to accidentally go way over and not lose right?
- Cafe Rio: Split a chicken Cafe Rio salad with someone once a week. No tortilla, no cheese. Go ahead and get the rest. (yes, the dressing too) This will keep you sane.
My HCG experience so far has been a good one that I would do again in a heart beat! So nice to be as skinny as I have ever been and I am still loosing. I have about a week and a half left before I go into phase three and then I am done. Pics will come when my diet is over.
