This is so interesting. It's an hour long, but I really enjoyed watching it. What kind of implications does this have? I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!
That was amazing! It's a whole new frontier of science opening up right before our eyes. And it looks like with increased knolege will come increased responsobility. Some may be tempted to say that ignorance is bliss. But when you think of the diseases that could be prevented or cured as a result of careful research, I say, "Go for it!" "mamas, let your sons (and daughters) grow up to be scientists!"
I think that this will really open people's eyes to how much the choices we make today will affect the lives of ourselves and our children tomorrow. Even just the amount of loving interaction I have with my children could possibly affect the health of my children later on. Wow!!! And you're really right. This kind of knowledge will bring increased responsibility. I feel it already! With my next pregnancy I am going to be a lot more careful of the things that I eat and expose myself to. And it makes my think back to my previous children. Did I eat properly and take my prenatal vitamins? Is the kitchen cabinet refinish I did while I was pregnant with Erik going to affect him at some point in his life? It's kind of scary!!! AAaaahhhhh!!! More stuff to worry about!
That is quite interesting. I have only watched half, but I will go back and watch the second half later today. Thanks for sharing. I love these types of shows.
Here's something I've been wondering about. Heavenly Father revealed the Word of Wisdom for our health and benefit. I hope that if there were other things we should be doing, or not doing, to protect the health of future geneerations, He would let us know about it, and not have us wait for science to discover it. But God moves in a mysterious way, and I can't even pretend to have many of them figured out.
I would say that Heavenly Father has already given us most of the guidelines that we need. We are told to love our children and to nurture them. Epigenetics indicates that love and nurture is essential for proper growth and development. Without it there is a physical change in our bodies that causes all kinds of problems. Emotional and Physical. We are also told that we should seek knowledge. I know that with my children I don't want to tell them every little thing that they should be doing. I want them to grow up to be independent thinkers and discover things for themselves. I would say that Heavenly Father has given us all of the really important stuff and the rest is for us to find out for ourselves. When I think of this Epigenetics stuff I wonder if sin also triggers a physical genetic change in our bodies. How does lying, killing, or sexual sin change us? Does doing these things cause people to get certain deseases? Maybe epigenetics is the reason why repentance is so hard. Some switch gets flipped. That's why the only way to really overcome sin is with our Savior to help us to overcome ourselves. I don't really know, but it is certainly interesting to think about!
