These are one of my family's favorite late night snacks. They are quick to make and super easy. You can also wrap the pretzels around hot dogs to make some yummy pretzel dogs for the kiddos. Try it and let me know what you think. Happy Baking!
Soft Pretzels
1 c. Warm Water
1 T. Yeast (or 1 pkg.)
2 ¾ c. Flour
½ t. Salt (regular)
1 T. Sugar
2 T. Margarine
1 Egg Yolk
1 T. Water
½ t. Kosher Salt (To sprinkle on before baking)
Pizza Sauce for Dipping
Combine warm water and yeast in a medium glass bowl and let it set 5 minutes. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients. (Flour, regular salt, sugar). Now cut up the margarine into the yeast mixture. While the yeast is sitting mix the egg yolk and 1 T. of water in a tiny bowl and set it aside. Pour the yeast mixture into a well in the dry ingredients. (Margarine may not be melted yet, it’s ok.) Stir the flour off of the sides of the well into the yeast mixture until it is all in. Knead 3 minutes. Form pretzels. Brush with egg yolk mixture. (Use a pastry brush.) Sprinkle with kosher salt. Bake at 475* for 12 minutes.
Dip in Pizza Sauce
Variation
